World Book and Copyright Day
Marta Villarte
Since 1995, April 23rd is the symbolic date of universal literature designated by UNESCO in support of publishers, booksellers and libraries, as well as authors and readers. It represents a link between the past and the future, and a bridge between generations and different cultures.
In Spain and the Hispanic world it is celebrated in a special way since, in addition to World Book and Copyright Day, we celebrate Sant Jordi's Day and its tradition of offering a red rose as a gift to the love ones. Culture and love, books and roses, characterises this popular cultural day.
The Instituto Cervantes Dublin, in collaboration with the Cork World Book Fest and the Trinity Center for Literary and Cultural Translation, presents a programme of events for all audiences: a conversation and live drawing about the novel set in the Golden Age, Ladrones de tinta (Thieves of ink); a book illustration workshop for YA and adults, and two poetry readings from A Different Eden (Dedalus Press) to celebrate and vindicate the importance of the environment and its presence in Galician and Irish poetry.
Come and celebrate with us, surrounded by books and red roses!
