The Instituto Cervantes Dublin and the Cork World Book Fest, are pleased to present and evening of Galician and Irish poetry in celebration of the coming World Book Day. Hosted by Irish poet and translator based in Spain, Keith Payne.
In dialogue with each other and our fragile ecosystem, some 40 contemporary poets (among them Paddy Bushe, Olga Novo, Michael Longley, Daniel Salgado, Paula Meehan, Luz Pichel, Doireann Ní Ghríofa, Xavier Queipo and Grace Wells) question the way we live in this world and how we celebrate our intimate relationship with all living things.
Guests writers Keith Payne, Lorna Shaughnessy and Martin Veiga (editors of A Different Eden) and poets Daniel Salgado and Ailbhe Ní Ghearbhuigh, will read poems in English, Galician and Irish, and will discuss on topics such as the making of the anthology A Different Eden (Dedalus press, 2021), the poems included, ecopoetry, translation and any other topics that may arise.

Artists Bios
Ailbhe Ní Ghearbhuigh was born in Kerry. She has read at festivals in New York, Paris, Montréal, Berlin and Ballyferriter. In 2012, her poem ‘Deireadh na Feide’ won the O’Neill Poetry Prize. ‘Filleadh ar an gCathair’ was chosen as Ireland’s EU Presidency poem in 2013 and was shortlisted in 2015 for RTE’s ‘A Poem for Ireland’. Coiscéim published her first book Péacadh (2008) and Tost agus Allagar (2016). A bilingual collection, The Coast Road, was published by Gallery Press, and includes English translations by thirteen poets. She is the 2020 recipient of the Lawrence O’Shaughnessy Award.
Keith Payne is the 2021-22 John Broderick Writer in Residence and has published six collections of poetry in translation from Galician and Spanish as well as Broken Hill, his debut collection. He was a previous awardee of the Irish Chair of Poetry Bursary, is director of the La Malinche Readings between Ireland and Galicia and co-editor of A Different Eden: Ecopoetry from Ireland and Galicia (Dedalus Press, 2021).
Daniel Salgado is a Spanish poet and translator who has published ten collections to date, the most recent, Os paxaros e outros poemas (Birds and Other Poems) (Xerais), was published in 2021. A selection of his poetry has been translated into Spanish as Huelga general (Marisma, 2018) and his work is also included in several anthologies. Salgado has translated the works of Allen Ginsberg and Lawrence Ferlinghetti into Galician and co-authored journalistic political essays.
Lorna Shaghnessy has published four poetry collections with Salmon Poetry, most recently Lark Water (2021). She lectures in Hispanic Studies in NUI Galway and translates Galician, Spanish and Latin American poetry. She is the director of Crosswinds: Irish and Galician Poetry and Translation, a collaboration of poets, translators and academics in Galicia and Ireland.
Martín Veiga is a Galician poet and translator. He lectures in Hispanic Studies at University College Cork and is the director of the Irish Centre for Galician Studies. He has published six poetry collections in Galician, including A ganancia e a perda (2020), and the bilingual anthology Alfaias na lama: poesía selecta 1990-2020 / Jewels in the Mud: Selected Poems 1990-2020.
