International Day of Women and Girls in Science
The rapid melting of glaciers is transforming water systems, migration patterns, cultural heritage, and the future of life on Earth. Within the framework of the exhibition Guardians of the Glaciers by Peruvian photographer Ángela Ponce—focused on the Quelccaya and Nevado Ausangate glaciers and their impact on Quechua-speaking communities in Peru—this program places the loss of tropical glaciers within a broader global context, from the Andes to the Arctic and Antarctica. The event will take place on February 11, in observance of the International Day of Women and Girls in Science, and will bring together prominent women dedicated to climate research and policy, including glaciologist Dr. Robin Bell (Columbia University, Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory) and public policy specialist Michelle Muschett, United Nations Assistant Secretary-General and Regional Director for Latin America and the Caribbean (UNDP). Journalist Catrin Einhorn from The New York Times will moderate the conversation.
