Wine Culture Tasting

Wine Culture Tasting Bruno Glätsch

The Instituto Cervantes and the Spanish Wine Federation offer a Spanish wine tasting in which to appreciate wines from Galicia. Among other aspects, attendees will be invited to discuss the aesthetic and organoleptic aspects. We will also have the chance to unveil the sustainable wine culture intrinsic to the Mediterranean diet. Miguel Ángel Muro, author of La bodega literaria española (The Spanish Literary Cellar), will share about wine as an object, context and source of inspiration in Spanish literature and how it has accompanied Mediterranean civilisations for the past eight thousand years.

Miguel Ángel Muro is professor of Theory of Literature at the University of La Rioja and author of El cáliz de letras. Historia del vino en la literatura (International Gourmand Prize, 2006) and La bodega literaria española (2018). Though above all, he is an enthusiast in teaching, reading, the wine culture and good wine. In the words of Goethe “life is too short to drink bad wine”.

The tasting, in collaboration with Martín Códax winery, will be a great opportunity to taste the wines Martín Códax and Martin Códax Lías. Both wines will be presented by Export Manager in Ireland and representative of the winery Celina Rodríguez Búa.

We are delighted to welcome tenor Wolodymyr "Vlad" Smishkewych and Michelle L. O'Connor (Medieval fiddle) to close the wine tasting event. The duo will present a selection of Galician-Portuguese cantigas, including some of the cantigas de amigo of Vigo-born troubadour Martín Códax. Both artists, dedicated to an in-depth exploration of medieval lyric, have shared the stage with stars of the early music and traditional music world, such as Jordi Savall and Carlos Núñez.
