Goya de Honor. José Sacristán

The Spanish Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences annually awards a special prize, the Honorary Goya, to artists whose careers are of indisputable value and relevance. In this year's 2022 edition, the award goes to José Sacristán, one of the most prestigious, respected and beloved actors in Spanish cinema.

With this online film series, the Cervantes Institute joins the academic recognition and tribute to the figure of this multifaceted performer with an enormous career in Spanish cinema, who has participated in more than a hundred films of very different spectrum and intention.

Selected by Sacristán himself, the cycle presents four titles that bring an interesting attention to the moment in which they were made. In addition, the participation of our protagonist in them reveals his pact with cinema as a tool for social dialogue and as a reflection of his hard work alongside four generations of filmmakers with whom he has cemented his exemplary craft as an interpreter.

The work of José Sacristán, who has also directed three feature films and several stage performances, allows us to take a look at the way in which Spanish cinema has been responding to the demands of social and aesthetic dialogue in Spanish culture. His unmistakable voice and his ability to embody all kinds of characters make him one of the best protagonists in the history of acting in Spain, as his presence has been constant in film, theater -and also musical theater- and television.
