The University of Oviedo, with the support of the Ministry of Culture, Linguistic Policy and Sports, the Instituto Cervantes, and the Consulate General of Spain in New York, is launching a collaboration with NYU’s Center for the Study of Cultures.
This partnership opens with a presentation highlighting the international reach, research, and regional engagement of the University of Oviedo, the only public university in the Principality of Asturias.
The program features three cultural activities that reflect the artistic and literary richness of Asturias, in dialogue with both tradition and contemporaneity. On September 11, the events will include “The University of Oviedo in Its Territory” with philologist Cristina Valdés, and “Literatura n’Asturies: Writing Between Two Shores”, a conversation with authors Paquita Suárez Coalla, Laura Casielles, and Alba González Sanz, focusing on Asturian literature written by women. On September 12, “Asturias: Music and Folklore by the Hearth” will take place, featuring artist Rodrigo Cuevas in conversation with Xaime Martínez, Luke Bowe, and Raquel López Fernández.
This gathering aims to strengthen academic and cultural ties between Asturias and the Spanish-speaking world in New York.
