Yerma, by Federico García Lorca
Translating is a way of reading.
We read the same text, but we each produce different translations according to our understanding and what we feel when we read. We also have our own way of expressing ourselves, our personal creativity and our consideration of the use to which our version will be put.
In this workshop we will invite you to reflect on the meaning of the original text, to share your translations and to discuss them.
The text we propose to translate into English is a scene from the play Yerma, written by Federico García Lorca in 1934 and staged that same year.
The workshop will be conducted by Luz Comendador (librarian and translator) and Ana Palacio (teacher at the Instituto Cervantes in Manchester).
