Wine and Culture: Sherry Wine Tasting from Jerez Fedejerez

Instituto Cervantes Manchester, in collaboration with the Spanish Wine Federation, Fedejerez (Federation of Wineries of the Jerez Region), the Regulatory Council of the D.O. Jerez and Manzanilla de Sanlúcar, the Consulate General of Spain in Manchester, and INNSiDE by Meliá Manchester, warmly invites you to a special Sherry wine tasting — an opportunity to explore the unique styles and flavours of one of Spain’s most iconic wines.

The tasting will be led by acclaimed sommelier Meritxell Falgueras, who will introduce the cultural significance of Spanish wine, followed by a guided tasting of the following wines:

  • Tío Pepe en Rama 2025 (González Byass – Fino)
  • As You Like It Medium Sweet Amontillado 30 Years VORS (Williams & Humbert – Amontillado VORS)
  • Encontrado (Sánchez Romate – Oloroso)
  • Harveys Bristol Cream (Fundador – Cream)

About Meritxell Falgueras

Meritxell Falgueras is a sommelier, writer and communicator with over 25 years of experience. She represents the fifth generation of the historic Celler de Gelida in Barcelona and is known for making wine culture accessible and engaging through her books, media appearances and public talks.

Her approach blends wine with culture, fashion, current affairs and feminism — “talking about wine without really talking about wine.” She is the author of five books, including Presume de vinos en 7 días, Los vinos de tu vida, Qué beber cuando no bebes, #ConVinoConTodo, and Cátame. She contributes regularly to El Nacional, ELLE Gourmet, and hosts the podcast Una botella compartida.

She has received numerous accolades, including Young Promise Golden Nose of Catalonia (2007), Sommelier of the Year (2011), and international recognition from the Gourmand World Cookbook Awards. Her training includes WSET London and studies in humanities and wine communication across Spain, Italy, France and the United States.
