Poetry Encounters

Poetry Encounters Instituto Cervantes

Poetry Encounters is an initiative created to promote the translation of poetry from Spanish into English and foster dialogue between languages and literary traditions. The project emerges as a space for collaboration between the Instituto Cervantes and the University of Liverpool, where translation students will work with texts by the poets selected for this first edition: Abraham Gragera, Oswaldo Chanove, Claudia Masin, and Fátima Saheb.

The resulting translations will be presented in a series of conversations with the poets held in some of the city’s most iconic libraries. These events will offer an opportunity to share the texts, reflect on the poets’ work, and discuss the challenges involved in translating their poetry into English.

The project is organised in collaboration with the University of Liverpool, Carcanet Press, Manchester City of Literature, The Portico Library, Manchester Central Library, and Manchester Poetry Library.
