Hispanic Cultural Day

Hispanic Cultural Day E. G.

The University of Bradford's Language Centre, in collaboration with the Embassy of Costa Rica in the United Kingdom and the Instituto Cervantes in Manchester and Leeds, tributes the diversity and socio-cultural richness of the Spanish-speaking countries around the world with the celebration of the first Hispanic Cultural Day, coordinated by Dr. Bernie Aráuz Cantón, Lecturer at the University of Bradford and builder and teacher in Education for Peace and Human Rights by the University of Costa Rica.


The day will feature folk dance performances by Colibrí Mexican Folkdance UK; the amazing flamenco sounds by guitarist Tom Metcalfe; and the screening of the Costa Rican fiction film Dos Fridas (Two Fridas, Ishtar Yasin Gutiérrez, 2018). In addition, the University of Bradford's catering service will prepare an assortment of nibbles inspired by the flavours of Spanish cuisine specially for the occasion. Finally, on this day there will be a diploma handover ceremony to students of the University by its Chancellor, Kate Swann.

The full programme is detailed below: 
  • 2.30-2.55 pm: Colibrí Mexican Folkdance UK.
  • 3.00 – 3.50 pm: Diplomas handout ceremony by the Chancellor of the University of Bradford, Kate Swann.
  • 4.00 – 4.50 pm: Flamenco guitar set by Tom Metcalfe.
  • 5.00 – 6.30 pm: Screening of Dos Fridas by Ishtar Yasin (Costa Rica, 2018), presentada por el profesor Duncan Wheeler (University of Leeds), in Spanish with English subtitles.
