Tom Metcalfe's Flamenco Guitar Set
British flamenco guitarist Tom Metcalfe -a disciple of masters such as Paco Peña, Jose Manuel León, José Alamarcha and Juan Martín- will perform a flamenco guitar set in the Hispanic Cultural Day from the University of Bradford's Language Centre. It will include a wide range of styles, which will give the audience a good idea of the multiple varieties that this globally recognised Spanish musical genre -a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2010- comprehends.
Tom Metcalfe is a freelance professional musician based in Manchester, UK. Tom is a performer, teacher, session musician, composer and workshop tutor. Primarily a guitarist, Tom is an experienced multi-instrumentalist who has been involved in a multitude of projects and bands. Tom discovered flamenco during a visit to the Seville April Fair in April 2012, although it was not until 2017 that he began his formal training as a flamenco guitarist.
Tom has had the honor of attending workshops given by Paco Peña, José Manuel León, José Alamarcha and Juan Martín. These events and workshops are often organized by local flamenco groups such as Flamenco de Leeds and Flamenco Manchester. In June 2021, Tom teamed up with Sánchez y Rigg, a Spanish-Scottish dance and music duo, based in Glasgow, Scotland. The trio have so far performed at Mortal Man in the Lake District, Seven Bro7hers Brewery in Manchester and Craigdarroch Arms in Moniaive, Scotland.
