The program New Cinephilias, co-organised with the Seville European Film Festival, has been presenting the best Spanish independent cinema in the rooms of the Cervantes Institute for several years already. The enormous diversity of approaches to contemporary cinema and the creative and experimental freedom of the featured filmmakers also highlights the relevance of a whole generation of moviegoers who have followed, and demanded, this type of cinema.
This year the series presents a rich and varied programme of four titles. The two narratively most obvious fictions – Karen and The Innocents – depict an inspiring break of the classic interpretation of the characters and the point of view of both directors. The other two films – Pa' trás ni pa' tomar impulso and Zumiriki – present an interesting portrait of their protagonists who consciously try to push the limits of realism and the idea of life as a work of art. The four films return to some physical or emotional places from which to continue.
