Aitana Sánchez-Gijón. Honorary Goya Award
The annual programme on the Instituto Cervantes' Vimeo channel begins with a cycle dedicated to the actress Aitana Sánchez-Gijón, who will receive the Honorary Goya Award on 8 February 2025 in Granada.
As the president of the Film Academy, Fernando Méndez-Leite, expressed, she is "a much-loved and respected actress among her peers, recognised by the public and critics alike since her beginnings. A complete actress: serious, responsible, competent, approachable, and who knows how to give truth, sincerity, and depth to all her work".
The titles in the cycle have been selected by the artist herself: in addition to Volavérunt, Bigas Luna's film for which she won the award for Best Actress at the San Sebastián Film Festival, her selection includes essential films from the late 20th century directed by leading figures in Spanish cinema, such as Vicente Aranda, Bigas Luna, Jaime Chávarri, and Fernando Colomo.
