Volavérunt
This big-budget production directed by Bigas Luna, with an international cast and crew, stars Aitana Sánchez-Gijón, who plays the Duchess of Alba. Doña Cayetana was a key woman at the court of King Charles IV who developed a compelling personality based on intrigue, but also on passion and desire.
The film's title evokes an ambiguity that must be traced from Goya's engraving No. 61 of the Caprichos, which shares its title with this feature film. The film radiates a grandiose visual quality through photography and costumes that bring us closer to the lavish world of the late 18th century.
Synopsis: One morning in the summer of 1802, Cayetana, the Duchess of Alba, is found dead. A few hours earlier, at the opening party of her palace, many of her admirers and detractors gathered: Goya, Godoy, Prince Fernando, Pepita Tudó, and Pignatelli, among them. Although it is accepted as the official version that the beautiful duchess died of natural causes, subsequent confessions and revealed secrets suggest that Cayetana may have been poisoned.
