Jose Sacristán. Goya Award

Jose Sacristán. Goya Award Jorge Fuembuena. Por cortesía de la Academia del cine

The Spanish Academy of Cinematographic Arts and Sciences annually awards a special "Goya de Honor", to artists whose career is of outstanding value and importance. The award for 2022 has been given to José Sacristán, one of the most prestigious, respected and beloved actors in Spanish cinema.

The Instituto Cervantes presents this online film cycle as part of the tribute to this multifaceted performer who during his long career in Spanish cinema has participated in more than one hundred films in a wide range of genres and styles.

Selected by Sacristán himself, the cycle presents four titles that provide an interesting commentary on the times in which they were made. In addition, his participation in these films reveals his pact with cinema as a tool for social dialogue and demonstrates his hard work alongside four generations of filmmakers with whom he has cemented his artistic legacy.

The work of José Sacristán, who has also directed three feature films and several stage performances, allows us to take a journey through the ways that Spanish cinema has responded to the demands for a social and aesthetic dialogue with Spanish culture. His unmistakable voice and his ability to embody all kinds of characters make him one of the best protagonists in the history of acting in Spain, as he has been a continuous presence in cinema, theater —including musical theater— and television.
