Homage to Alonso Quesada, in the anniversary of his death

Homage to Alonso Quesada, in the anniversary of his death Instituto Cervantes de Amán

In 2025, the centenary of the death of modernist writer Alonso Quesada is commemorated.

Alonso Quesada was the pen name of Rafael Romero Quesada, born in Gran Canaria in 1886.

He is the author of poetry collections such as The Linen of Dreams (1915), a work that, more than a century later, continues to surprise with its stylistic and thematic relevance. The same applies to his short story collection Smoking Room. His dramatic poem La Umbría was adapted into a film in 1975 by artist José Dámaso to mark the 50th anniversary of his death.

The Instituto Cervantes in Amman honors Alonso Quesada with a poetic and musical recital featuring musical adaptations of texts by Quesada and his contemporaries, as well as works by Arab poets such as Talal Haydar and Said Akl, performed by singer-songwriter Luis Fajardo López-Cuervo. The tribute is completed with an exhibition of graphic works by Dámaso related to La Umbría and a screening of the film.
