To mark the 50th anniversary of the premiere of La Umbría, the Instituto Cervantes in Amman is pleased to present a special screening of this film directed by Pepe Dámaso, inspired by the dramatic poem of the same name written by Alonso Quesada in 1922.
This event forms part of the commemorative program honoring the centenary of Alonso Quesada’s passing, a leading figure of Canarian literary modernism.
Following the screening, an open discussion will be held with the audience, creating a space for dialogue and reflection on the work and its artistic context.
Synopsis: The film portrays the story of a family haunted by tuberculosis, death, and the ghosts of their ancestors, confined within an old mansion known as La Umbría in the Agaete Valley at the dawn of the 20th century. Filming took place in the iconic Casa Roja on the Las Longueras estate, also in the Agaete Valley. All the actors featured in the film were natives of Agaete, the hometown of artist Pepe Dámaso.
