Verses from East and West. Poetic-Musical Recital Honoring Alonso Quesada

Verses from East and West. Poetic-Musical Recital Honoring Alonso Quesada Instituto Cervantes de Amán

Singer-songwriter Luis Fajardo López-Cuervo presents a poetic-musical recital titled Verses from East and West. The program features musical adaptations of works by poet Alonso Quesada and other modernist authors from the Canary Islands who enriched the presence of this literary movement in Spain. Fajardo also includes pieces by Arab poets Talal Haidar and Said Akl, translated into Spanish during workshops at the Instituto Cervantes led by Noura El-Sayed Rodríguez and Jaafar Al Aluni. These bilingual editions (Arabic/Spanish) are part of the Cuadernos de Baalbek collection, coordinated by Yolanda Soler Onís.

The recital forms part of the commemorative activities marking the centenary of the death of Spanish writer Alonso Quesada (Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, 1886–1925).

Luis Fajardo López-Cuervo has set to music more than one hundred poems by various authors. On the occasion of the centenary of Alonso Quesada’s passing, the program highlights works by modernist poets from the Canary Islands. Born in Madrid in 1957 to a family of Granada origin, Fajardo is a mathematician by profession and a high school senior professor. His dedication to promoting Canarian culture began during his student years at the University of La Laguna and has continued for over forty years, spanning both theatrical and poetic-musical fields.
