Presentation of Book/Ilustrated Talk in English - Registration required The InstitutoCervantes Sydney is honoured to present in Australia the ilustrated talk: “Coincidences: the tale of a book and its translation - Antonio Iturbe’s La Bibliotecaria de Auschwitz/The Librarian of Auschwitz” about the famous book "The Librarian of Auschwitz" from the Spanish writer Antonio Iturbe which has been translated to English by Dr Lilit Thwaites (La Trobe University, Melbourne). About the book: Based on the experience of real-life Auschwitz prisoner Dita Kraus, this is the incredible story of a girl who risked her life to keep the magic of books alive during the Holocaust. About Dr Lilit Thwaites: Lilit Žekulin Thwaites is an award-winning Melbourne-based literary translator, and an honorary research fellow in contemporary Spanish literature at La Trobe University. She was the first recipient of the Multicultural NSW Early Career Translator Prize (2015), and was recently awarded the Spanish Order of Civil Merit by the King of Spain for her contribution to the promotion of Spanish literature and culture in Australia. Translation highlights include The Librarian of Auschwitz (Antonio Iturbe, 2017), named one of Publishers Weekly’s Best Books of 2017, and recently awarded the Gold Medal (Teen Category), Sydney Taylor 2018 Book Awards; and Tears in Rain (Rosa Montero), one of World Literature Today’s 75 Notable Translations of 2012.
