We invite you to take part in two communal braiding workshops led by Venezuelan textile artist Cassandra Mayela Allen, organized in conjunction with her exhibition Aquel Amplex at the Instituto Cervantes gallery. These sessions aim to activate the exhibition through participatory processes that weave together memory, dialogue, and collective creation.

Since 2024, Mayela Allen has developed a communal braiding practice inspired by Indigenous knowledge and rituality, transforming individual stories into a shared narrative of reflection and cultural preservation. Her methodology—rooted in gathering, conversation, and collaborative making—opens a space for listening and co-creation. In Aquel Amplex, she invites participants to work collectively with a set of flags from the Instituto Cervantes, reimagining them as a new artwork symbolizing union, belonging, and shared memory. More than an activation of the exhibition, these workshops offer an invitation to engage in a living, relational, and community-centered artistic practice. The activity is open to all ages and does not require prior experience. Participants are welcome to join at any point during the scheduled time. The artist will guide the braiding and conversation process, integrating each contribution into a collective piece. All materials will be provided by the Instituto Cervantes.

The final artwork resulting from both workshops will become part of the collection of the Instituto Cervantes in New York, strengthening the connection between the exhibition, the participating community, and the artist.
