Aquel amplex

Aquel amplex Cassandra Mayale Allen

From April 26 to June 28, 2026, the Instituto Cervantes in New York will present the exhibition Aquel Amplex, with new work by the artist Cassandra Mayela Allen, curated by Fabiola R Delgado and Carlos Núñez. Cassandra Mayela Allen (Caracas, 1989) uses textile media to give visibility to lives silenced by migration, transforming everyday moments into testimonies of belonging.

Her series Maps of Displacement—tapestries woven with clothing from Venezuelan migrants—and Bodega Quilts—quilts stitched from spaces inhabited by immigrants in New York, her adoptive city—have been exhibited in museums and galleries in New York, Washington D.C., and Mexico City. With Aquel Amplex, the artist expands her emotional cartography, evolving her work in textile from the artisanal to the architectural. The exhibition will unfold in two parts: a main show in the gallery of the Instituto Cervantes and a textile project carried out participatively throughout the exhibition period.
