Marcos Eguren, The Visionary Master

Marcos Eguren is one of the great revolutionary winemakers in the history of Spain. His winery, Sierra Cantabria, opened in the 19th century, but it was only in the late 1980s that Eguren took over and proceeded to show Rioja and the world his visionary skills. Along with Torre Muga, his San Vicente wine started the modern Rioja movement in 1991. He later continued with a collection of impressive Rioja wines, like Amancio, El Bosque, La Nieta, El Puntido, etc., that took Tempranillo to new heights. He did not stop experimenting and creating other more affordable but equally innovative and quality-oriented wines. Then he moved to Toro where he founded the pioneering Numanthia winery and later Teso la Monja. This tasting is a tribute to Marcos Eguren’s visionary winemaking skills.
