Spain in Africa. Round-Trip Imaginaries in Documentary Cinema (1931-2024)

Spain in Africa. Round-Trip Imaginaries in Documentary Cinema (1931-2024) Garp

For three quarters of the 20th century, Spain administratively and politically dominated various territories in what we know today as Morocco, Western Sahara and Equatorial Guinea. Often neglected in textbooks and blurred in public and citizen debate, these fragments of the history of Spain (and of Morocco, Western Sahara and Equatorial Guinea) have been punctually picked up in newsreels, documentaries and some fiction films.

This film series consists of four screening sessions plus a fifth introductory one in which we will trace the audiovisual relationship between Spain and its colonies in Africa, its scars and its ghosts.
