Caperucita en Manhattan

Caperucita en Manhattan MCU

On the centenary of Carmen Martín Gaite, Madrid’s Teatro de La Abadía presents Caperucita en Manhattan, adapted and directed by Lucía Miranda. The play arrives at the New York Book Fair in the form of a staged reading. It is a reinterpretation of Perrault’s classic tale and a clear example of the power of fiction as a safe space, a refuge in the face of adversity. Sara Allen lives in Brooklyn and dreams of Manhattan. One day, she runs away from home to visit her grandmother, a former music hall singer, and gets lost in a timeless journey through diners, film sets, and Central Park. Along the way, she meets a millionaire baker and an ageless beggar, with whom she shares two secrets that will help her find her path to freedom. This musical proposal blends Martín Gaite’s Castilian world with the cinematic New York, creating a contemporary fairy tale. Recommended for ages 8 to 88.
