Interculturalism in the Indian classroom of Spanish as a Foreign Language: reflections and challenges

Interculturalism in the Indian classroom of Spanish as a Foreign Language: reflections and challenges Interculturalidad

In the third session of ‘Hispanism in Action’, we will reflect about the importance of cultural mediation by Indian teachers to bring Spanish culture and language closer to students, potential future Hispanists and ambassadors of Spanish culture.

In this colloquium moderated by María Gil Burman, Director of the Instituto Cervantes New Delhi, we will have the participation of two hispanists and Spanish teachers, Nabiel Ansari and Priy Bharti. Dr. Nabiel Ansari, professor at Jawaharlal Nehru University in Delhi, will offer a reflection based on teaching experiences, focusing on the cultural stereotypes and prejudices that often arise during the teaching-learning process. Dr. Bharti from EFLU, Hyderabad, will address mediation as a key tool both to foster intercultural competencies and to overcome cultural differences present in the Indian educational context.
