Flamenco-Carlos Saura's India

Flamenco-Carlos Saura's India Carlos Saura

The origin of the gypsy people goes back to India; its culture, dance and music are closely intertwined with current flamenco. That is why Saura has been investigating the roots of flamenco, finding those origins from his close collaboration, in the 1980s, with the dancer Antonio Gades.

In this way, in 2015, Saura would conceptualize and direct Flamenco-India, a live show that combined dance, music and theater.

Flamenco-India was an exploration of the links between flamenco and various forms of music and dance from India, and with an amazing staging.
This Indo-Spanish production showcased the best of flamenco's passion and vitality in dialogue with the richness of Indian dance and music traditions, taking us on a journey from Andalusia to the roots of flamenco and gypsy culture traced back in the deserts of northern India.

The Flamenco-Carlos Saura's India exhibition, thanks to the collaboration of Instituto Cervantes with the Casa de la India in Valladolid, will collect Carlos Saura's passion for India, it is a vivid testimony of his creative commitment containing audiovisual images and photographs taken by Saura himself, as well as the sketches, drawings, letters and notes taken during his travels through India and his creative process while preparing the staging of the Flamenco-India show.
