WoLLoW - a fresh way to look at language learning at school
ICMInstituto Cervantes in Manchester presents a new session of the Bilingualism series, coordinated by Julio Villa-García, under the title "WoLLoW: a fresh way to look at language learning at school" and given by John Wilson. Sometimes being a language teacher in the UK can feel like swimming against the tide. We do our best to try to share our passions, but other times we can let ourselves down with a lack of co-ordinated thinking. This talk looks at how doing things differently at primary schools and lower secondary school levels by looking at languages more holistically and celebrating multilingualism may be a more effective approach. It also looks at how we are doing our best to fill in the gaps between lessons, to ensure students can keep learning and stay motivated. John Wilson is Head of Modern Languages at Cheadle Hulme School, a Spanish Teacher by trade, is also co-founder of WoLLoW (World of Languages and Languages of the World). He has recently published Somos Edu, Neus y Hassan which is designed for second/third-year secondary school students of Spanish, and tells three parallel stories of three friends in Madrid over the weekend of San Isidro.
