'Supersaurio', by Meryem El Mehdati
Translating is a way of reading.
We read the same text, but we produce different versions of it according to what we understand and feel when we read it.
Our understanding of texts can also vary according to our own ways of expressing ourselves, our creativity and the text’s purpose. In this workshop, we will experiment with the translation of some very recent Spanish fiction: the first pages of the novel Supersaurio (2022), by Meryem El Mehdati.
Translating El Mehdati (Rabat, 1991) poses the interesting challenge of bringing from the original Spanish to English a new, young, oral and peripheral language and style.
This workshop will be presented by Luz Comendador (librarian and translator) and Ana Palacios (teacher at the Instituto Cervantes in Manchester).
