Poplars
Lesvos Island, 1997. A father waits at the harbour to pick up his two young children, smoking a cigarette. On the opposite side of the shore, their mother helps them board the gazolina (boat). When the children arrive, they are older than when they set out on their journey. They formally greet their father and get into the car, which will take them to a field of olive groves. There, three large poplar trees stand, symbolising the three heroes. They immediately begin their work in the field. The trees and the children grow rapidly every time the father smokes or gets angry. Suddenly, the father realises that time has passed unnaturally quickly, noticing how much his children have grown.
