Nanuq
Nanuq was a polar bear born in a den in Nunavut. He spent the first few months of his life huddled next to his mother and brother, feeding on milk and listening to stories about the outside world. After a few months, the cubs were big and strong enough to survive outside, so their mother dug her way out, and their adventure began.
The cubs enjoyed playing and running around in the snow and learned to return to their mother at any sign of danger. One morning, the family set off for the bank; the mother needed to eat to produce more milk for her cubs. On the way, the cubs were introduced to a multitude of new smells, which their mother was teaching them. When they arrived at the bank, the mother began to teach the cubs the art of hunting.
A few months later, the family had not hunted for a few days and were hungry. Nanuq and his brother began to fight noisily near a herd of walruses with gigantic tusks. Suddenly, a polar bear appeared and approached the walruses to try to catch a cub. Nanuq's mother, frightened, gathered her children and tried to drive them away, but it was too late. The polar bear had identified Nanuq and his brother and was heading towards them to eat them. The family managed to get far enough away and out of sight, and the mother told them that hunger drove polar bears to do almost anything and that the ice was melting faster and faster in summer, so finding food became more difficult.
By the time summer came to an end and the ice was forming again, Nanuq and his brother had learned vital lessons that would help them as adults.
