Iberofonía

Iberofonía Instituto Cervantes Mánchester

Iberofonía comes from the affinity between the two main Iberian languages: Spanish and Portuguese.  This is a multinational group, which comprises of more than 800 million speakers, in around thirty countries, across all continents.

It covers the largest linguistic group in the world and represents a fifth of the Earth’s surface. In recent decades, great advances have been made in the articulation process and Iberian countries have gained more visibility internationally. This has prompted more cooperation between states and balanced out, in geocultural terms and benefits to cultural and linguistic diversity, some of the aspects of ongoing gobalisation.

Frigdiano Álvaro Durántez’s proactive academic work has contributed to this pan-Iberian geopolitical process. Today he will present the facts and basis of this trend as well as explain why the time has come for official organisations to unite and face this challenge for all Spanish and Portuguese speakers´ benefit.
