Frontiers

Frontiers Frontera

California premiere of the latest feature film by Catalan filmmaker Judith Colell. Synopsis: Inspired by real events, Frontera tells the story of a small village in the Pyrenees in 1943 whose inhabitants, defying the restrictions of Franco's regime, helped hundreds of refugees fleeing Nazism to cross into France. Tormented by the lingering wounds of the Spanish Civil War, a customs officer is drawn to the desperate people he is supposed to stop. While secretly helping them escape, his wife, unaware of his actions, begins to shelter refugees almost in plain sight. Director Judith Colell creates a gripping historical thriller that goes beyond a faithful reconstruction of wartime Spain to offer a moving reflection on moral courage, the weight of individual and collective responsibility, and the fragile line between peace and brutality.
