Raquel Andueza and la Galanía

Raquel Andueza and la Galanía CNDM e Instituto Cervantes

2014 GEMA award-winning baroque music group La Galanía is one of the most important specialized groups within the Spanish classical scene today. Founded in 2011 by Raquel Andueza and Jesús Fernández Baena, its purpose is to interpret Baroque music, both from the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries, using careful historicist principles and in collaboration with the best Spanish and international musicians specialising in this repertoire and genre. On this occasion, they present a programme not only of secular Spanish music, but a sample of scores which contain lyrics in Spanish, but which were discovered in other European collections. Spanish poems were a source of inspiration to musicians from other countries who subsequently chose to put their melodies to these Spanish texts. Furthermore, Spain had so great of an influence at this time (through its political power and displaced persons,) that these melodies were popular enough to be deemed worthy of a place in French, Italian and English musical collections. In addition, the program shines a spotlight upon the reconstruction of some typical Spanish dances of the era, whose melodies have otherwise been lost.
