New online cinephilias

New online cinephilias Instituto Cervantes - Ángela Valverde y Lola Montero

"The other Spanish cinema" was the label used to name that generation that began in the cinema with the 21st century, filmmakers who sought to express themselves with new paradigms and who benefited from the freedom that the digital revolution brought. Throughout these twenty years, this cinema has created a small niche where it experiments with new narrative models. There is no doubt that, with them, new spectators have been born who recognise and await their traces: the modes of post-modernity, the visual quality, the formal daring and the multiple representations of these films are some of the signs of identity that creators and audiences share and recognise.

Undoubtedly, this "other Spanish cinema" has been defended at all costs by festivals, which have stood up as places where they (in)form and connect with contemporary film lovers.

Our programme "New Online Cinephilias", co-organised with the Seville Festival, is a proposal to give visibility to this new side of the most independent and creative film production in Spanish cinema, and also to recognise the programming and didactic work behind the culture of the festivals.
