Translation as a tool to integrate literature
Several translators of the new generation, who specialize mainly in current Latin American writers, talk about the reality of their work Frank Wynne is a literary translator. Born in Ireland, he moved to France in 1984 where he discovered a passion for language. He worked as a bookseller in Paris and again when he moved to London in 1987 , he translated and published comics and graphic novels and from 1996-2001 he worked in online media. He began translating literature in the late 1990s, and in 2001 decided to devote himself to this full time. He has translated works by, among others, Michel Houellebecq, Frédéric Beigbeder, Ahmadou Kourouma, Boualem Sansal, Claude Lanzmann, Tómas Eloy Martínez and Almudena Grandes. Leonardo Boix is an Argentinean poet and translator based in London and Deal (Kent). He has published two collections in Spanish. His English poems have appeared in The Rialto, Minor Literature[s], The Morning Star, Ink, Sweat and Tears, and elsewhere. He is currently a member of The Complete Works III. He has a column in The Morning Star where he reviews Latin American / Latinx books in translation. He is a member of the Poetry Translation Center, where he works as an advisor on Latin American issue. Catherine Boyle is Professor of Latin American Cultural Studies at King’s College London. She was a co-founder of the Journal of Latin American Cultural Studies. She is a translator of Latin American theatre and poetry, and her most recent research is on the meeting places of translation and cultural history. From 2008 to 2012 she was the Principal Investigator on the AHRC-funded, Spanish and Spanish American Theatres in Translation: A Virtual Environment for Research and Practice, better known as Out of the Wings. In 2009, along with Sue Dunderdale and Karen Morash, Catherine created the Head for Heights Theatre Company, dedicated to the performance of theatre from cultural extremes and marginality, and in 2011 the company premiered her translation of Las brutas / Beasts, by Chilean dramatist Juan Radrigán.
