El portero

El portero [Desconocido]

El portero is a rarity in Gonzalo Suárez’s filmography. Based on someone else’s text and featuring a more traditional, everyday comedic logic than audiences were used to in his films, it approaches the daily reality of a Spanish post‑war village with shades of a western—just as contemporary critics described the movie. Its two protagonists, played by Carmelo Gómez and Maribel Verdú, create a humanistic portrait of the losers of the war.

Synopsis: In 1948, Ramiro Forteza, a former football goalkeeper who once played in the first division, makes a living traveling from village to village, challenging locals to take penalty shots against him, with a few coins at stake for anyone who manages to score. [ICAA Database]
