The International Day of Women and Girls in Science
Instituto Cervantes (diseño: Lola Montero)In recent decades, the international community has made great efforts to inspire and promote the participation of women and girls in science. However, they continue to face obstacles in the scientific and technological fields.
In order to achieve full and equal access and participation in science, the United Nations General Assembly decided to proclaim 11 February as the International Day of Women and Girls in Science.
On the occasion of this celebration, the Cervantes Institute will broadcast a video of the director of the biobank of the Spanish National Cancer Research Centre, Eva Ortega-Paíno. In it, the scientist will highlight the work of women in STEM areas (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) and will defend the need to create female references that contribute to the choice of Science as a professional career, as well as the importance of promoting practices that lead to gender equality in the discipline.
