The production of informative documentaries in Spain has experienced a remarkable growth since the end of the last century and has continued with a notable presence in festivals and as part of the programming of television stations and media platforms. The capacity of the audio-visual narrative of the documentary to address current affairs or the concerns of society, has found in this format an effective means to connect with the public interested in being informed.

Within this production profile, the concern for memory has had a fundamental place in its development, so several documentaries have moved from their usual niche on the small screen or the festival circuit to become a reference point to reassess questions about our recent past. This is undoubtedly a trend that can be seen in other countries, as shown by two of the documentaries presented in this series, made in Argentina and Peru, which address other ways of approaching society's past.

This programme of films marks the beginning of a collaboration with the Valladolid International Film Week (SEMINCI), one of the oldest film festivals in Spain and a great supporter of this type of content through the Tiempo de Historia (History Time) section, which gives its name to our series. As a result, the festival has selected four titles that more than fulfil the aim of approaching the past in order to think about it in a different way.
