Bajo el silencio (Underneath the Silence)

Bajo el silencio (Underneath the Silence) Josu Álava y Koldo López

A true master of commitment to knowledge on the side of the victims of terrorism in the Basque conflict, Iñaki Arteta began his career as a documentary filmmaker dedicated to contextualizing and elaborating a narrative on this subject in 2004, when he presented Voces sin libertad drawing immediate public attention to his approaches. In Under the silence, he tackles the traces of terrorism in the Basque Country after the cessation of the armed struggle in 2011, bringing a new perspective to his work that evidences his drive to accompany the story of those affected by violence.

Synopsis: A young journalist travels to the Basque Country to get close to those responsible for the murders of the terrorist group ETA and their ideological accomplices. During his trip he interviews repentant terrorists, with those responsible for crimes currently assimilated into their villages, with those convicted for terrorism occupying positions of mayors, parliamentarians or university professors, in order to hear their explanations about their past linked to the ultra-nationalist network and to find out what mark terrorism has left in the Basque Country after its long and painful existence.
