The Argentinian specialist in theatre, researcher and lecturer María Bastianes (Complutense University of Madrid, University of Leeds) will be in conversation with María José Ribot, better known as La Ribot, Spanish choreographer, dancer, visual artist and producer. Throughout her career, La Ribot has been honoured with a whole host of prestigious awards – in 1998, she was nominated for the Paul Hamlyn Foundation Award for Visual Arts and two years later, in 2000, won the National Dance Award from the Spanish Ministry of Culture. Later, in 2015, she received the Gold Medal for Merit in Fine Arts in Spain; in September 2019, the Swiss Dance Grand Prix awarded by the Helvetic Confederation in recognition of her artistic work and, most recently, in 2020, La Ribot was awarded the Golden Lion at La Biennale Danza in Venice. .


In her projects, La Ribot (María José Ribot Manzano, Madrid, 1962) exposes and examines the gaze from the body, space, image and movement. Her choreographic work has been presented at the Tate Modern (London), the City of Paris Theatre, the Pompidou Centre (Paris), the Reina Sofía Museum (Madrid), and as part of the Rio de Janeiro Panorama Festival, among many others. Her visual work has also made up collections at the Reina Sofía Museum and the Pompidou Centre, but as well at the National Centre for Plastic Arts-CNAC (Paris), the MUSAC (Museum of Contemporary Art of Castilla y León), the Artium (Centre-Museum Basque Museum of Contemporary Art), the Cajasol Foundation (Seville) and the Casa Encendida (Madrid).

A specialist in the history of European and Argentine 20th century theatre, María Bastianes is a talent research lecturer at the Complutense University and a visiting researcher of the University of Leeds, where she directs the European project "EStages UK. Spanish Theatre in the United Kingdom (1982–2019)", (Marie Skłodowska-Curie Individual Fellowships). In the past, she has worked at Colby College (USA) and the Carlos III University of Madrid. She has also carried out an Andreazza research project for the Fondazione Cini in Venice (Italy, 2017). Among her works on the staging of the classics, it is worth mentioning the co-edition and creation of the collective volume Diálogos en las tabla. Latest Trends in the Staging of Classical Spanish Theatre (Reichenberger, 2014), the book Vida escénica de La Celestina en España (1909-2019)(Peter Lang, 2020) and her next monograph on the history of staging scene from La Celestina in Italy: Performing La Celestina on the Italian Stage: From Mussolini to the Piccolo Teatro di Milano (Routledge).
