Argentina, 1985
The Instituto Cervantes, in collaboration with the University of Leeds, is pleased to present a special screening of Argentina, 1985 as part of the SPLAS Film Club 2026.
Inspired by the true story of Julio Strassera, Luis Moreno Ocampo, and their young and determined legal team, this gripping courtroom drama portrays their courageous David-and-Goliath struggle to bring justice to the victims of Argentina’s brutal military dictatorship.
Against all odds, they prosecute the leaders of the bloodiest regime in the country’s history, seeking accountability for the atrocities committed during the “Dirty War.”
Argentina, 1985 offers a powerful and moving depiction of resilience, justice, and the pursuit of truth. Beyond recounting a pivotal moment in Argentina’s history, the film highlights universal themes of human rights and the rule of law.
