Words on the Street

Treat yourself to a new experience – hear voices from ten European countries, across a range of interesting venues you may not have visited before in the old Dublin 2.

There will be six readings in each venue. The first begins at 6.30pm with readings every half hour, the last at 9pm. All readings are free. No booking necessary.

Instituto Cervantes’ participates in the festival with reading of Milena Busquets’ This Too Shall Pass by Irish broadcaster Mary Kennedy.

Milena Busquets was born in Barcelona where she attended the Lycée Français de Barcelone. She obtained a degree in archaeology from the Institute of Archaeology at University College London. Soon after began working in publishing, and has since founded her own publishing house. She currently works as a journalist and as a translator.

Valerie Miles (New York, 1963) is a publisher, writer, translator and the co–founder of Granta en español. She is known for promoting Spanish and Latin American literature and their translation in the English speaking world, as well as bringing American and British authors to Spain and Latin America for the first time. She is also the co-director of The New York Review of Books in its Spanish translation.

Séamus Ó Coileáin is a lecturer in Léann an Aistriúcháin (Translation Studies) in NUI Galway. He is a technical and literary translator and among his published translations is An tAilceimiceoir, an Irish language translation of Paulo Coelho’s The Alchemist. His translations of the series of children’s books Le Petit Nicolas are due for publication later in 2018, as is an Irish language version of The Wizard of Oz.

Once house of the Turkish Baths opened in 1860, the Lincoln Place baths were famously called 'the mosque of the baths' by Leopold Bloom in James Joyce's Ulysses. Today is home to Instituto Cervantes Dublin.
