Laughing in Spanish: The Rebirth of Spanish Comedy Series

Laughing in Spanish: The Rebirth of Spanish Comedy Series Instituto Cervantes (Lola Montero)

We invite you to take a journey through the Spanish-language television comedies that have marked milestones both in Spain and abroad. What characterizes Spanish humour in television fiction? What elements allow these comedies to travel and find other audiences? How have Spanish productions changed over the last twenty years?

In this two-hour session, expert Leire Albinarrate will provide a panoramic view of the evolution of TV comedy from the 2000s to the present day.

Sessions
Dublin - 7 May, 6 pm
Galway - 8 May

Through critical analysis and the viewing of key examples, we will explore the landmarks that have redefined the genre: from the massive hits of the 2000s, through the digital transition with the arrival of the internet (2008) and premium channels (2010), up to the emergence of streaming platforms (2016).

Additionally, we will explore genres such as generational comedy, surrealism, and the mockumentary to understand how the Spanish fiction has transformed over the last twenty years.

Don't miss this visual tour of Spanish humour over the past two decades!
