Hispanic Cinema Fortnight
The Instituto Cervantes, in collaboration with the Embassies of Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Cuba, Mexico and Peru present the 2nd Hispanic Cinema Fortnight in Dublin. Join us to discover the landscape of cinema in Spanish through the artistic wealth and quality of this series of interesting stories. We will start with Retablo (Peru, 2017), a story about the weight of heritage, the limits of love and the heavy load of family expectations, in contrast with the romantic comedy Enamorándome de Abril (Mexico, 2015); a story which inevitably brings together the lives of a writer and a journalist who hide their own writing in pen names of the opposite sex. From Cuba arrives ¿Por qué lloran, mis amigas? (2018), the story of the reunion of four friends which reflects about the value of friendship and women's concerns in today's Cuba. Subterra (Chile, 2003), the adaptation of Baldomero Lillo novel of the same name narrating the story of human and social changes in the harsh environment of coal mines. Mamá (Colombia, 2017), immerse us in the story of three generations of women of the same family we see through the events occurred during the few days the matriarch takes in her 7 year old granddaughter. We will be able to enjoy the performance of three of the most recognisable faces of Argentinian cinema, Ricardo Darín, Leonardo Sbaraglia and Federico Luppi who bring to life a thriller in Nieve Negra (Argentina, 2017). Documentary Omega (Spain, 2016) travels to the genesis of a 1990’s groundbreaking project, in which the best Flamenco represented by Enrique Morente and the music talent of the rock band Lagartija Nick, meshing Federico García Lorca´s poetry and Leonard Cohen's music. Join us in this second celebration of Hispanic cinema in Dublin.
