International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women

The United Nations General Assembly chose this date in memory the three Mirabal sisters murdered on November 25, 1960 by the Trujillo dictatorship in the Dominican Republic. The aim of this day is to denounce, prevent and eradicate violence against women and girls around the world, calling for worldwide action to increase awareness, promote advocacy and create opportunities for discussion on challenges and solutions.
