Hija de la laguna

Hija de la laguna Javier Piragauta

The commitment to nature and the fight against large corporations overexploiting natural resources has been documented by various filmmakers from the 1970s, especially in Latin America. These struggles are usually lead by indigenous populations, who fight against the imposition of capitalism in their territories. In this case, Nélida's story brings us closer to the danger that hangs over the lagoons in the Peruvian area of Cajamarca, which hide rich deposits of gold under their waters. The struggle of this peasant shows the imminence of a problem that concerns all citizens of the planet.

Synopsis: Nélida, a woman in the Andes who speaks with the spirits of the water, uses her abilities to confront a mining company that threatens the lagoon that she considers her mother. The thing is that, just below Nélida’s lagoons, lies a rich gold deposit that confronts the peasants - who fear running out of water - with the largest gold mining company in South America.
