Mindful Constructions for a Better Environment
Sustainable architecture offers a respectful answer to its environment for the construction of edifications without forgetting the architectural appeal of the construction and providing a comfortable and habitable interior.
Isabel Martínez and Sara Pavía will present the most recent trends in relation to construction materials and decontamination processes. Each guest will explain different aspects linked to new materials to improve the quality of the air we breathe and the optimisation of the natural resources and construction methods to minimise the impact of constructions in the environment and the potential inhabitants they are destined for.
The reduction of environmental impact is not only a social necessity, but a requirement to guarantee the preservation of the planet for future generations. The architect Alan Mee will chair the discussion.
Isabel Martínez has a PhD in Chemical Sciences from the Complutense University of Madrid. From 1998 her career has developed in the Institute of Construction Sciences Eduardo Torroja, IETcc (CSIC) working in the area of durability of structures and extension of useful life. She is a Senior Scientist member of the research group "Sustainable Interaction of Building Materials with the Environment (ISCMA)", of the Construction Department. She has collaborated in more than 30 national and international research projects and in more than 50 research contracts with a range of companies. She is co-inventor of two patents, one of them licensed and exploited internationally and has a large experience in teaching and informative activities.
Sara Pavía is Associate Professor, Civil Struct & Env. Eng. at Trinity College Dublin. She has developed her career and research in areas such as construction material science and technology, sustainable construction, building limes and lime mortars, pozzolan, physical and chemical properties and their testing methods, standarisation of testing methods and quality, among others. She has published extensively. She is Conservation advisor for Office of Public Works (OPW).
Alan Mee is a built environment consultant, researcher, urban designer, and architect working in urbanism, architecture, and education. He has published and spoken widely on spatial aspects of dramatic change in the Irish designed environment, and is a Senior Lecturer in urban design at the School of Architecture, Planning and Environmental Policy, at University College Dublin.
