Iñaki Arteta has a long history in acknowledging the terrorism victims’ side in the Basque conflict. He began his career as a documentary filmmaker engaged in contextualizing and elaborating a story on this conflict in 2004, when he presented Voces sin libertad (Voices without freedom). The film immediately captivated the public’s attention. In Bajo el silencio, Arteta addresses the traces of terrorism in the Basque Country after the end of the armed struggle in 2011, a twist in his his work that demonstrates his drive to highlight the story of those affected by violence.

Synopsis: A young journalist travels to the Basque Country to get closer to those responsible for the murders of the terrorist group ETA and their ideological accomplices. On his trip, he interviews repentant terrorists, people responsible for crimes who are currently integrated in their towns, people convicted of terrorism occupying the position of mayor, parliamentarians or university teachers, in order to listen to their explanations about their past linked to the ultra-nationalist network and find the marks left by terrorism on the Basque Country after its long and painful existence.
