Poesía en Abril
Poesía en Abril is an international poetry festival in Spanish presented annually by DePaul University in collaboration with the Cervantes Institute of Chicago and the cultural magazine Contratiempo. It is recognized as the most outstanding literary program in Spanish in the US Midwest. The festival brings together poets from Chicago, other US cities, Latin America and Spain. The first festival was held in 2008, and since then, various friendly organizations have joined the festival and have enriched its programming. Poetry in April has had the collaboration of the Poetry Foundation, Instituto Cervantes Chicago, Chicago Park District, Northeastern Illinois University, University of Illinois at Chicago, Chicago Latino Film Festival, The Guild Complex, Saint Augustine College, Comfort Station, The Jazz Showcase, Open Books, La Catrina Cafe, National Museum of Puerto Rican Arts & Culture, Segundo Ruiz Belvis Cultural Center, La Décima Musa, and Calles y Sueños House of Art and Culture, among others. The festival presents a series of readings, performances, workshops, meetings and contests in various venues in the city of Chicago, and it is this breadth of platforms and the quality of the poetry that has made this experience one of the favorites of poets participants.
