No One Is Coming Today

No One Is Coming Today Water People Theater

No One Is Coming Today tells the story of the survivors of an imaginary village that has lost everything after a violent attack. In an act of resistance and hope, the inhabitants of this endangered community cling to the rhythms of daily life, their love for their crafts, their traditions, and life itself, seeking to honor the memory of the dead and preserve their legacy. The play combines sensitivity, strength, and humanity, demonstrating how memory and culture can sustain us even in the darkest moments.

This play, awarded the third prize at Mujeres Creando, was written by Colombian playwright Diana Chery-Ramírez, who holds a Master’s degree in Performing Arts from the Academia Superior de Artes de Bogotá and a Master of Fine Arts (MFA) in Theatre from Hunter College, CUNY. She lives in New York, where she balances her work as a teacher with her work as an actress and playwright. Her theatrical work has been published and performed in Colombia, the United States, Argentina, Mexico, Peru, and Spain.

The staged reading is directed by Denise Yvette Serna, an internationally recognized theatre professional and arts activist. Denise holds an MFA in Theatre Directing from East 15 Acting School, London, and co-founded Global Hive Laboratories, an international collective dedicated to creating global theatre through intentional practices of active access and community exchange. She is also an alumna of the Multicultural Fellowship at Steppenwolf Theatre Company and is part of artEquity’s diverse cadre of facilitators supporting equity-focused initiatives nationwide.
